Gertrude Elizabeth Anderson passed away peacefully in her 100th year at Riverside Health Care, Fort Frances, ON with her family by her side on July 20, 2020.
Gertrude was born to Michael and Rosela Schneider in Regina, SK on March 23, 1920. She was one of seven daughters who grew up and worked on the family farm in rural Saskatchewan. In 1938 she married Gisli Anderson and in 1952, together with their three children, moved east to Fort Frances.
Gertrude was affectionately known to everyone as “Granny.” Granny was a caring and loving Mother (the best), Grandmother, and Great-grandmother. She was thrilled to become a “Great-Great” Grandmother. She never forgot the birthdays of her many family members and would always send greetings with a phone call. She was an amazing cook and loved bringing family together for delicious Sunday dinners and special occasions. She spent a lot of time baking for her family and they would enjoy receiving her chocolate chip cookies well into her 99th year.
Granny spent a number of years working at the Fort Frances Bakery and she retired from the Rainy Lake Hotel dining room where she had spent more than 25 years working as a waitress. Those were the “glory days” when the waitress wore a black uniform, a white apron and a tiara in her hair. After retirement, she would enjoy spending time at the Sister Kennedy Centre and later years with her partner Norris, playing cards and travelling.
Granny was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gisli, daughter Sherlie, five sisters and long time friend and partner Norris Langtry.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Pollard; daughter Helen (Mike) Andrusco; son Oliver (Judy) Anderson; son-in-law Bob Klaas; grandchildren Stephen (Shelley) Gosselin, Lorelei (Dennis) Wood, Mike (Michelle) Anderson, Michael (Carrie) Andrusco, Benjamin (Sherry) Andrusco, Krysta (Phil) Tremblay, Anthony (Becky) Andrusco; great-grandchildren Matthew, Jennifer, Olivia, Andelina, Steven, Neil, Michael, John, Grace, Josh, Benjamin Jr, Isaiah, Nathan, Avery, Isla, Mackenzie, Zach, Eleazar, Ethan; great-great-grand children Michael and Levy; and all spouses of the grandchildren.
Granny is also survived by the family of Norris Langtry, Doug, Gail, Sarah, Carrie (Brad), Josh and Amelia.
Granny was obedient to the word of God, and made the confession of Romans 10: 9-10 accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was ready.
We were all blessed to have her and will always cherish the memories we have together.
A family service will be held in Thunder Bay, at a later date.
