GERALDINE CORDELIA SMART

Geraldine Cordelia Smart, 94, of Rainy River, Ont. and formerly of Pinewood, Ont., passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.
Geraldine was born March 24, 1918 in Buttress, Sask. to George and Mabel Scott.
At the age of 16, Geraldine and her family left Saskatchewan and came to Pinewood. She was united in marriage to Frank Smart on April 22, 1938.
Together they farmed and raised their family on a farm just west of Pinewood. In 1966, they moved to Rainy River.
Geraldine worked at various jobs, including waitress at Bert’s Restaurant, laundress at Ed’s Drycleaners, and for many years as seamstress/supervisor at Arctic Cat in Rainy River.
Along with volunteering with the U.C.W., hospital auxiliary, Rebekahs, and helping neighbours, Geraldine had a great fondness for growing African violets of any colour. She also had a great love for sewing and knitting.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Darlene (Robert) Warner of Grand Prairie, Alta., Audree Paulson of Rainy River, Ont., Bev (Gerry) Collett of Crozier, Ont., Ellen (George) Chojko-Bolec of Arbor Vitae, Ont., Gerald (Nancy) of Winnipeg, Man., and Joanne Armstrong of Ignace, Ont.; grandchildren, Jim, Peggy, Lynda, Tom, Kris, Don, Sandy, Delbert, Nadine, Clifton, Timothy, Cameron, Twyla, and Trent; and 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Geraldine also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mabel Scott; husband, Frank (1996); son-in-law, Ray Paulson; grandson, Tyson Alan Armstrong; great-grandson, Richard Nicholas Hussey; brothers, Tom Scott and Milroy Scott; and sister, Lucy Ableson.
Family and friends were received Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Rainy River.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
The pallbearers were Tom Ronning, Jim Warner, Don Ronning, Delbert Collett, Clifton Chojko-Bolec, Trent Armstrong, Timothy Smart, and Cameron Smart.
The honourary pallbearers were Kris Ronning, Peggy Ovens, Lynda Hussey, Sandy Lougheed, Nadine Gerula, and Twyla Berube.
