It is with great sadness that the family of Gerry Hanson announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Gerry was born on August 10, 1939, in Bergland, Ontario to Mark and Margret Hanson. He grew up in Minnahico and as a young man started working at Dalseg’s Store in Morson. He then went on to work for Burns Meat Ltd. He left Burns, joining Gillon’s Insurance where he retired after 28 years of service to the community.
Gerry loved to be outdoors, especially at Amik on Lake of the Woods, he spent many days hunting and fishing and spending time there with his family and friends. He was united in marriage to Joan Brusven on November 19, 1965, and together they built a life that was based on family. Family was always first and he loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing hockey, playing until the age of 59! His love of the game was passed on to his children and grandchildren and he loved watching them play.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Joan; children Sue Hanson, Tracey Newhouse, Mike Hanson and Chad (Trisha) Hanson; grandchildren Emilee (Bennett), Andrew, Nicolas, Layton, Landen, Max and Gavin; sister-in-law Gail (Pio) Parisi and their children Jennifer and Niki; brother-in-law Bob (Sherry) Brusven and their children Lars and Torin; sister-in-law Colleen and her children Cindy, Donna and Danny.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents; brother Marvin Hanson; and in-laws George and Hazel Brusven.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances with Reverend Merna Major officiating.
