It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Wesley Hayes, on Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Penticton, B.C.
Wes was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Shell River, Man. to William J. Hayes and Frances (nee Durey).
Wes married Jean Steele, the love of his life, on Nov. 14, 1945 and they spent many hard-working hours raising their family on their farm in Miscampbell, Ont.
He was so very proud of his family and farm.
Wes leaves to mourn his son, David (Maxine); daughter, Diane (Harley) Hatfield; daughter-in-law, Jane; grandchildren, Warren (Shirley), Darwin (Lisa), Chris (Bridgit), Candice (Daryl) Prior, and Rochelle Hatfield (Rob); and great-grandchildren, Joleigh, Annalise, Keelan, Brandon, Kaden, and Brooklin.
Also surviving are his sisters, Gladys (George) Hughes, Aileen Ryan, and Maxine (Jim) Lamb; sisters-in-law, Luva, Sis, and Helen Steele, Laverne (Ken) Desserre, and Dorothy, Audrey, and Ila Hayes; and brothers-in-law, Lorne Golding, Hank Larson, and Clark Neilson.
Wes was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jean, on Aug. 18, 2005; their son, Dennis, on May 17, 1999; brothers, Harman, Art, Allan, Basil, Edwin, and Mervin; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gerald Ryan, Don, Sonny, Bill, Garry and Connie, and Bob Steele, Maurice and Gladys Desserre, Lyla Golding, Peggy Larson, and Mary, Ellen, and Ruth Hayes.
Wes was known for his story-telling and never-ending jokes and yarns, which he loved to share with his many friends and family.
We know he is telling yarns in Heaven.
Cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Jean, and their son, Dennis, in the Burriss Cemetery.
