George Lowell Olson Jr. passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the LakeWood Care Center in Baudette, Mn. at the age of 80.
George was born June 4, 1927 in Ada, Mn., the youngest child of Bella (Dekko) and George Olson, Sr. He graduated from Ada High School in 1945, participating in football, basketball, track, band, choir, declamation, newspaper staff, and yearbook staff.
He served in the U.S. Army from January, 1946 to March, 1947. He then received his B.S. in education from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1951.
He and Henrietta Anderson were married on Aug. 9, 1954.
He completed his Master’s degree in education from the University of North Dakota in 1955. He taught business education at Williams High School from 1951-53, was the principal from 1953-57, and later the Superintendent of Schools from 1957-60.
He was the chairman/instructor of Business Education for the Brainerd Area Vocational Technical School from 1964-68, and later the chairman/instructor of Business Education at Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Mn. from 1968-83.
He also worked in the private business sector at a variety store, insurance, and used cars in Williams, Mn. from 1960-64.
George was involved in many activities, including the coach/manager of the Williams fast-pitch team (25 years), Williams Babe Ruth baseball team (13 years), 9th District Legion Band, and Bethany Lutheran Church (band, men’s choir, and mixed choir) in Williams, Mn.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Olson, of Williams, Mn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Dennis, Ervin, Stanley, and Art; and sisters, LuVerne and Myrtle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at noon at Fredrikson Funeral Home in Ada, followed by burial at the Ada City Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held in the summer at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Williams.
