It is with great sadness that the family of George Tucker announces his passing on Friday, June 24, 2005 at the age of 83.
George was born June 26, 1921 to George and Jane Tucker in Fort Frances, Ont. He had lived all of his life in this area, settling on Lobstick Island with his son, Larry.
He had served with the Canadian Forestry Corps during WWII, spending time in France, Holland, and England.
After returning from overseas, he settled back in Fort Frances and was united in marriage to Nellie Laura McLeod.
George worked with the local paper mill for 31 years and was the last captain for the “Hallett” before it was retired. After his retirement, he spent much of his time logging, fishing, hunting, and blueberry picking. He was always outdoors.
George also loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
George was predeceased by his parents, George and Jane Tucker; wife, Nellie Tucker on Oct. 24, 1992; and brothers, Gilbert, Horace, and Ronald Tucker.
He leaves behind his children, Don (Kathi) Tucker of Reef Point, Ont., and his children, Roderick and Andrew Tucker; Larry (Laurie) Tucker of Lobstick Island, Ont., and his children, Jason, Heidi, and Jonathan; Laura (Claude) DeGagne of Ottawa, Ont., and their children, Michael, Jacqueline, Giselle, and Monique; Alice (Pat) Cullen of Rochester, Mn., and their children, Carolyn, Patrick, Barbara, and Peter; and Bette Lou (Ed) Denny of Carson City, Nev., and their children, Geonell, Teresa, Eric, Everett, and Darian.
He also is survived by 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Carol) Tucker of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sisters, Elsie Taylor of Fort Frances, Ont. and Loretta (Karl) Lipinski of Hopkins Bay, Ont.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Tom Meyers will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Roderick Tucker, Andrew Tucker, Jason Tucker, Jonathan Tucker, Peter Cullen, and Patrick Cullen.
