GEORGE CHARLES BARTLETT

George Charles Bartlett, 80, of 603 King’s Highway, Fort Frances, Ont., went to be with his Lord peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born Nov. 19, 1928 in Toronto, Ont. to the late Samuel and Madeline Bartlett.
George was raised in Toronto, and at the age of 15 began working with W.J. Gage Company as a typesetter for 10 years. He then moved to the Kenora District, where he was employed with the Department of Highways as a surveyor on the Trans-Canada Highway for 10 years.
He later worked for the Department of Lands and Forest in Kenora for 10 years as a licensed scaler until 1975.
On June 9, 1975, George was united in marriage to Margaret (nee Martinson).
From Kenora, George moved to Fort Frances, where he was employed at the kraft mill and paper mill until his retirement in 1991.
George was very active in the community. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Fort Frances Lions Club, was past-president of the Fort Frances Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association, sat on the advisory council for the local Salvation Army, and involved with Ice for Kids in 1997.
He also was instrumental in having Ken McCombe come to Fort Frances during his “Incredible Journey” walk across Canada.
George also enjoyed fundraising for many worthwhile benefits and travelling over the years.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Wendy Bartlett; sister, Norma and her husband, Lou Cardiff; brother-in-law, David Fraser; and brother, Fred Bartlett and his wife, Doreen.
George is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Bartlett of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, Randy Bartlett of B.C.; stepson, Bill Wishart and wife, Victoria; step-grandchildren, Nicole and Kristen Wishart; sister, Ruby Fraser of Gravenhurst, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor David Groff officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Family and friends may visit Sunday, April 12, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be Larry Hands, Luke Schill, Dick Bird, Larry Glueheisen, Walter Cunningham, and Leo Pruys.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of George’s many friends whose lives he touched.
