GEORGE BLISS

George Bliss, a long-time resident of Fort Frances, Ontario, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the age of 80.

George was born on January 27, 1946, in Coatbridge, Scotland, to his loving parents, the late George Bliss Sr. and Ruth Bryce. He immigrated to Canada and answered the call to serve early in life, joining the Canadian Navy at the young age of 17.

In his early 20s, George began a dedicated, lifelong career with the Canadian National Railway (CN) in Winnipeg. While living in Mine Centre, he met the love of his life, Anna. Together, they settled in Fort Frances, where they raised their family. Upon retiring from CN at the age of 53, George stayed active in his community by driving a school bus for Asselin’s for 13 years, safely greeting local children each day.

George and Anna shared a beautiful, adventurous marriage. Together, they loved to travel, exploring the world on over a dozen cruises. Their journeys took them to incredible destinations, including Europe, Mexico, South America, Hawaii, the Cook Islands, and Tahiti. Back at home, George thoroughly enjoyed spending his days with his best friend and loyal canine companion, Mocha, and the two could often be found happily driving around town together.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife Anna Bliss; his father George Bliss Sr.; and his mother Ruth Bryce.

He is survived by his devoted children Allan (Allie) and Neil Bliss, all of Fort Frances. He is the cherished grandfather of Brennan, Sara (Ben), and MacKenzie, and the proud great-grandfather of Hadley and Lily.

He is also survived by his siblings Merle MacMillian and Morag (Elaine) Maki; as well as his special friend Brenda.

A private family gathering will take place in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
