Frederick Whitehead passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his residence in Fort Frances, Ont. at the age of 71.
Fred was born July 4, 1937 in Big Fork, Ont. to the late Aaron and Daisy (nee Hyatt).
He attended public school in Big Fork, and later at Lakehead Pre-Teacher College in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Fred taught public school in Miscampbell Township for one year. He then began working in the magistrate office in Fort Frances in 1956 as a clerk, court reporter, administrator, and then as Justice of the Peace.
Fred was united in marriage to Eleanor Scheirer on May 10, 1957.
In 1970, Fred was appointed as the first Northern Affairs officer in Fort Frances. Then in 1977, he accepted the administration position for Rainycrest—a position he would hold until retirement.
Fred will be remembered for his community involvement, serving and volunteering on numerous boards throughout Rainy River District.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Carolyn (Mike) Copps of Thunder Bay, Ont., Jim (Holly) of Fort Frances, Ont., Dave of Fort Frances, Ont., Noreen (Paul) Richard of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Jason (Katie) of Fort Frances, Ont.; and his seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jacob, Aaron, Adrian, Taylor, and Tristan.
Fred also is survived by his sisters, Glenda (Ted) Johnson of International Falls, Mn. and Mary and Lloyd LeMoignan of British Columbia; and sister-in-law, Annette Whitehead of southern Ontario.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Charlie.
A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends at the Bear Pass Chapel on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Graff will lead the memorial.
