It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Shawn Ottertail announces his passing on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, ON.
He was born on November 23, 1975 in Fort Frances, ON to Lawrence Oshawee and Dora Ottertail. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing poker. He spent many hours teaching his children how to fish and hunt. He enjoyed physical work. He organized many poker tournaments in his home community of Lac La Croix First Nation.
He leaves behind his mother Dora; children Mason Ottertail (Summer McNeil and daughter Kaida Mae Windego), Cassidy Bruyere (Matthew Thorsheim and son Matthew Thorsheim Jr.) and Maddi Bruyere (son Kingston Fisher); stepchildren Kiara Arvelin, Alayah Kwandibens, Sierra Ruby and Jaxxon Ruby and their mother Brenda Arvelin; siblings Shelley Kabatay, Greg Ottertail and Jake Ottertail. He also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father Lawrence Oshawee; grandmother Helen Jordan; and cousin Albie Morrison.
A traditional funeral ceremony was held at the home of Lawrence Oshawee on Saturday, June 27, 2020.
