FREDERICK JAMES MUNRO

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Frederick James Munro on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at the age of 76.
Fred was born April 27, 1937 in Fort Frances, Ont. to James and Ella Munro. He grew up in Dance Township with his five brothers and one sister.
Fred moved to Atikokan, Ont. in the 1950s, where he met his wife, June, and was married on Aug. 23, 1958.
Fred was a hard-working and reliable man. Over the years he was employed by George Armstrong, Canadian Charleson, Caland Ore Company, and, most recently, driving truck for Jack Russow and Richard Bowes Sr.
He was dedicated to his job and loved what he did . . . so much so that it became more of a hobby to him and he worked hard until his retirement at the age of 70.
Even after retirement, Freddie enjoyed going for rides from time to time with his younger brother, Donny, in his logging truck.
His co-workers nicknamed him “Steady Freddie” and it was a name he lived up to. He was loyal, devoted, sturdy, and strong, in both work and in life.
When he wasn’t working, Freddie enjoyed keeping up with current affairs and events, fishing, hunting, tinkering with machinery, checking out the buy and sells, “shooting the breeze” with friends, and, most importantly, enjoying the company of his family.
Family was very important to Fred, and he often was thought of as the family rock. Everyone knew they could go to Freddie with anything and he would do whatever he could to help them out.
He was kind, gentle, and caring.
Fred was so proud of his family, especially his four grandsons. He had a special place in his heart for them all and a unique bond with each one of them.
He loved children and especially enjoyed the times he spent with his great-grandson, Kolby. They had a special relationship and a big love for one another.
Fred also was looking forward to another addition to his family; a new great-grandchild to arrive in the spring.
He was a kind, generous, and honourable man who will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Fred leaves behind his wife, June; daughters, Brenda (Richard) Wood and Dawn Munro (Eric); grandchildren, Jared (Stacey) Wood, Cody Wood (Ashley), and Ryland and Kelly Briska; great-grandson, Kolby Wood; siblings, Jack (Dean) Munro, Keith (Betty) Munro, Donny (Joyce) Munro, and James (Mary) Munro; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
He was predeceased and re-united with his sons, Kelly James Munro and Irwin Wayne Munro; parents, James and Ella Munro; stepmothers, Iris Munro and Emily Munro; and sister, Janice Ross.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with Pastor Lynne Dimma officiating.
Interment followed at Little Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to the Atikokan General Hospital or to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
