Fred Westover, 79, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River with his family by his side.
Fred was born Oct. 28, 1929 in Barwick, Ont. to the late William and Edna Westover. He began working for the CNR in 1954, and remained at that job until he retired in 1990.
Fred married Margaret Mose in Oct. 20, 1956 and together they had six children, 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed helping others and was a creative problem-solver.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret, and their children, Brent (Donna), Beth (Darrell), Faye (Don), Dixie (Tracy), Eric (Carla), and Elaine (Jered) and their families.
He also is survived by his brother, Milton Westover; sister, Margaret Westover; many in-laws; and nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Don (Jessie), Jim, and Bill Westover; sisters, Helen (Irwin) Pretty and Iva Olson (Erling); and sister-in-law, Annie Westover.
Family and friends were received Friday, March 20, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., where funeral services were held Saturday March 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. Richard Raschke, Louise Carlson, and Carol Grey officiated.
A reception followed at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo.
Interment will take place in Barwick Cemetery in Barwick at a later date.
The pallbearers were Brent Westover, Eric Westover, Darrell Moe, Tracy Thue, Don Fisher, and Jered Stinson.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Fred’s grandchildren.
