It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Ottertail Sr. announces his sudden passing on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
He was born March 18, 1965 in Fort Frances, Ont. to George and Clara Ottertail. He lived in Lac La Croix First Nation all his life.
Fred was a very kind, caring, respectful, accepting, and loving man. He enjoyed playing volleyball and floor hockey, and going fishing. An avid Habs’ fan, he also enjoyed drumming and singing.
Fred loved spending time with his big brother and best friend, Len, and his buddies. He was a family man at heart and loved every moment spent with his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his children, Dorion (Roxy) Whitecrow and their children, Joanna and Elizabeth, Jeremiah Whitecrow, Phillip Whitecrow, Victoria Whitecrow and her children, Evans and Sophie, Fred Ottertail Jr., Desirae Whitecrow (Richard) and child, Caleigh, Jade Whitecrow, Howard Ottertail, and Clara Whitecrow and their mother, Camilla Whitecrow.
Also surviving are his brothers, Wesley Ottertail, Jerry Ottertail (Sheila Whitefish), Eugene Ottertail, and Leonard Ottertail; sisters Alice Ottertail, Myrna Ottertail, and Joyce Mainville (Daniel Belanger); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews and nieces, uncles, aunts, and many cousins.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, George Ottertail Sr. and Clara (Labott) Ottertail; sisters, June Morrison and Janet Oshawe; and brother, Ernest Ottertail.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the home of Leonard Ottertail in Lac La Croix First Nation.
The pallbearers were Fred’s family and friends.
