FRANK JOSEPH ADVENT

Frank Joseph Advent was born in Vassar, Man. on May 24, 1912 to Agatha and Andrew Advent. He attended school there but in the fall of 1923, he moved to Dewart with his family, where they homesteaded.
From 1924 to 1936, he worked at many jobs–in camps as a cook’s helper, then as a teamster; at a construction camp building dams; as a deckhand and watchman on a ship on the Great Lakes; on a farm and in the woods.
In 1937 to 1943, he spent his summers at Nestor Falls guiding and the winter months logging and farming in Dewart. It was during this time that he fell in love and married Olive (nee Widgren), his wife of 61 years, who predeceased him May 12, 1999.
They were married March 20, 1938 at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ont. In early March, 1946, they moved to a farm north of Stratton and worked side by side until retirement in 1984, when they moved to their home near Stratton, Ont. on the banks of the Rainy River.
At last he had time to enjoy his horses and play cards.
In the summer, he enjoyed gardening, flowers, and picking berries. In January, 1998, they moved to Morley Meadowside Manor until October. Since that time, he has been at the Emo hospital in Emo, Ont.
Frank was involved in the community, whether it was as a board member of the Patullo School, Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association, or helping the neighbours.
Quietly, on Sunday, June 13, 1999, Frank passed away at Emo. He leaves to mourn his three children, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, Telford and Elaine of Stratton, with their children, Carla (James) Kanter of San Francisco, Cal., and JoLayne (Danny) Davidson and daughter, Alexia, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Carolyn of Stratton, and Emily and Norman Hyatt, with their sons, Trevor and David, of Barwick, Ont.
Also surviving are one brother, John and wife, Marjorie, of Stratton, Ont.; sisters, Vickey Bates of Kelowna, B.C., Jocelyn Wise of Vancouver, B.C., and Margaret Advent of Toronto, Ont.; and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Advent, Evelyn Widgren, and Helma and husband, Derward Angus.
His extended family, Norma, Jack, Scott, and Mark Elliott, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families will miss this gentle man.
He was predeceased by an infant son in 1939; infant brothers, Peter and Stephen, sister, Mary Kozachenko and husband, Joe; brother, Joe; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Sandboe, Blondie Bates, Robert Wise, Walter, Camensa, and Telford Widgren.
On Wednesday, June 16, 1999, family and friends gathered at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Pinewood, Ont. to celebrate Frank’s life. Pat White officiated, with interment in the Stratton Cemetery.
