It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Virginia McKiel announce her passing at Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ontario, on February 3, 2026. She would have been 103 years old on March 20, 2026.
Frances leaves behind daughters Judy Stellman and Sandra McKiel; sons David McKiel, Frank McKiel, Edgar McKiel, and Joe McKiel; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Frances was born in Fort Frances on March 20, 1923, and was raised in Mine Centre. She married her husband Frank McKiel and they lived many years in Atikokan, Ontario, raising their six children. There are many fond memories of time spent at the cabin in Mine Centre, where Frances and Buck resided after their time in Atikokan. In her later years, Frances spent five years living in North Surrey, B.C., before returning to Atikokan.
She will be lovingly remembered for her great cookies, wonderful pancake breakfasts and her love of playing cards and the game Trouble.
She has been cremated and a celebration of her life will be held in Mine Centre at a later date when her family can travel.
