It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Fern Douglas on August 30, 2022; a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Fern was born to Gus and Marie Bartel in 1932. Raised in Fort Frances, Fern was one of eight children. After high school Fern married her lifetime companion, Sterling Douglas. After starting her family, she continued her education and became a nurse, which was her calling. Fern worked at La Verendrye Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed her shopping dates with friends, knitting, reading and on occasion, a trip to the Border Bar. Fern was always there to help out whenever, especially with the grandchildren, she never said no. If you knew Fern, you would have been blessed, she had a heart of gold.
Fern was predeceased by her mother and father; husband Sterling; daughter Margaret Kangas; son Shawn; and siblings George, Patrick, Julius, Bert, Ralph.
She will be dearly missed by her children Patrick (Linda), Sandy, Steve (Kim), Bill (Shelley); and her grandchildren Chad (Tammy), Jenny (Jed), Shannon, Jonathon (Jessyka), Shauna (Roman), Joel, Grace, Breanne (Derek) and Abby; and 11 great-grandchildren; along with her sister Lorraine; and very special nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Cancer Society of Canada
