Father William James “Bill” Giovetti, age 84 years of 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ontario passed away quietly on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his residence in Fort Frances, Ontario.
He was born January 31, 1927 in Sherbrooke, Quebec to the late William and Mary Giovetti. He was united in marriage to Edith Rawlins on June 28, 1952.
He attended Kings College and then St. Chad’s Seminary in Regina where he graduated with a L.Th.
He was ordained Deacon on May 1, 1952 by the Bishop of New Westminster and then Priest on May 14, 1953 by the Bishop of Saskatchewan.
Father Bill served many parishes from the western provinces to the eastern provinces as well as in South Dakota and Minnesota.
Eventually, Bill and Edith retired in Fort Frances where Fr. Bill served at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, as honourary assistant.
He will be dearly missed by his church family, many friends and family.
Father Bill recently had moved to Rainycrest where he resided until his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Edith of Fort Frances, ON.; four children, Carol Torres of Oklahoma, William John Giovetti (Carrie) of Winnipeg, MB., Jane Breaton of Vancouver, B.C., and Jacques Giovetti of Vancouver Island; two grandchildren, William Torres and Dustin Breaton; three sisters, Beverley, Peggy and Marilyn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Betty.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Minnesota.
A memorial service to celebrate Father Bill’s life will take place on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Father Wayne McIntosh and Archbishop David Ashdown will officiate with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ontario.
