EVERETT HALVER HANSON

We would like to note the passing of this dear man, and invite all to join in remembering and celebrating his life.
Everett was born Sept. 3, 1925 in Atwood Township, District of Rainy River. He was born on the Hanson homestead and remained next to this piece of land all his life.
He was a man of many talents, but his true passion was his land beside the Rainy River and the farm he built upon it. Intertwined with this, he put his large, capable hands to many other tasks. His work ethic was truly admirable.
Besides his dedication to the land, he applied his knowledge and skills to numerous endeavours. These included a stint as a mechanic with the railroad, a business owner of a bus operation, and 25 years of service as a Canada Customs officer.
Along with his wife, Irene, of 58 years, they raised a family of five children. His legacy includes Wayne (Elaine), Brian (Maria), Val (Wayne), Randy (Michelle), and Tim. He also was a loved grandfather to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was loved and respected by all.
Everett was predeceased by his parents, Hugo and Daisy; brothers, Ralph and Earl; and sister, Doris.
Everett’s surviving family members include his sister, Vivian (Fred); brother, Dale (Jeanine); sisters-in-law, Nancy and Rose; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Aside from his devotion to family, he also was community-oriented. He volunteered time to the Kinsman Club and the Canadian Legion. He was always there to lend a helping hand to any family, friend, neighbour, or acquaintance.
His strength was admired by all and he applied it to help meet the needs of others.
A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, with Rev. Barb Miller officiating.
Pallbearers were Cam Hanson, Vaughn Murray, Frank Books, and G. (Bud) Hannam.
