EVELYN LOVEDAY

With family by her side, Evelyn Pearl Loveday passed away peacefully at Pinewood Court in Thunder Bay, on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mom anticipated being re united in heaven with her beloved husband, Herman Loveday, and her two sons, Duane and Mark.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Larry Loveday and Dianna, Don Loveday and Linda, Joan Loveday and, daughter in-law, Sherry Loveday.
She also leaves behind her much-loved grandchildren, Rhonda Loveday (Corey), Brad Loveday (Marcy), Patrick Carruthers (Dawn), Duane Loveday (Sherri) and Jonathan Loveday (Brian); and treasured great-grandchildren, Mark and Marissa Loveday, Nolan, Brant and Kenna Spuzak, Courtney and James Carruthers, and Jamie and Callie Loveday.
Evelyn was born in Emo on Feb. 17, 1931 to Charles and Flora “Renie” Brigham and was proud to say she came from a family of 15 children. She was united in marriage on Oct. 6, 1948 to Herman and celebrated 62 years of marriage before he passed.
She also leaves to mourn her passing, her sisters, Shirley King of Fort Frances, Elsie Skinner of Emo, Lucille Cayou (Joe) of International Falls, MN, and Sylvia Hyatt (Tim) of Emo; one brother, Herb Brigham of Edmonton; and one sister-in law, Myrtle Loveday of Fort Frances.
She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Flora (Renie) Brigham; and in-laws, Charles and Lillie Loveday; her sisters, Dorothy Wilson (Roy), Ruby McDonald (Williard), Leila Hele (Marvin}, and Patricia McDonald (Ken) as well as Opal and Laura who passed in infancy.
Also preceding her in death are brothers, Marvin Brigham (Ardelle), Milford Brigham (Marie Louise) and William Brigham; as well as brothers-in-law, William King, Williard McDonald, Marvin Hele, John Skinner, Ken McDonald, Reuben Arason, Gerald (Bud) Hyatt, Leonard Loveday (Mildred), Christopher Loveday and Raymond Loveday.
Mom took great pride in her home and would work tirelessly to ensure everything was spotless and in its place. She always did her best at anything she attempted to do and felt a real sense of accomplishment in completing a hand-stitched quilt with guidance from her sister, Lou.
She was a good cook but excelled at baking. She worked many hours in her kitchen baking bread, pies, cakes, cookies and butter tarts that were to die for. She loved to share her creations, along with a cup of tea, with anyone who stopped by for a visit.
The years she spent working at Helliar’s Gift Shop in Nestor Falls provided her with many fond memories also.
Mom was a story-teller and loved to reminisce about the old days. Many of her fondest memories included time spent with family, in particular, Pat and Ken, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In later years, she joined the Off Lake Covenant Church and the great friends she made there sustained her through some difficult times. She became best friends with Artie Ferris and thoroughly enjoyed their adventures together which included many ice fishing trips. Some great stories and good laughs came of these times.
There were also many hours spent visiting with Margaret, Linda and others usually over tea and some of mom’s delicious baking. She really treasured these times.
Evelyn will be laid to rest on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Finland Cemetery with services being held at 2 p.m. from Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, ON. Pastor Joe Orr of the Off Lake Covenant Church will preside over the service with a luncheon to follow.
