EVELYN DOREEN HARE

Evelyn Doreen Hare, age 85, passed away on September 28, 2022.

Evelyn was born on March 7, 1937, to Cliffard and Edna Strachan of Emo, Ontario. Evelyn – Evie to her friends – graduated high school and married Arthur Dungey in Emo. Together they had five children Roger, Sandra, Dennis, Darryl and Sharron. In the early 70’s they relocated to the Lakehead (Thunder Bay). Evelyn was always busy as a caregiver to many and helping out with the family business, diamond drilling. She would pack up the kids and head to remote bush camps to bring supplies or parts and sometimes stepped in as cook in the cookhouse. Evie had various talents such as music (piano and accordion) and was a skilled, creative seamstress who sewed many outfits and quilts. Evie had a great sense of humour and was never afraid to try new things. She endeavoured in marksmanship, ran a diamond drill, water skied, cross country skied, accomplished various needle art crafts, and knitted a zillion mitts and socks for various charities, to name a few. Her story is so much more than this… Evie lived, loved and laughed. Now Evelyn has found peace.

Evelyn is survived by her brother Dale (Marilyn); sisters-in-law Dianne, Norma; and brother-in-law Vernon. Her children Roger, Sandra (Rob), Dennis, Darryl and Sharron (Wade); daughters-in-law Anne, Joan, and Tammy; grandchildren Jennifer, Jason (Dawn), Owen, Michael, Dayna, Maddison, and Willow; great-grandchildren Maegan, Shelbie, Drew, Ainsley, Aaron, and Porter; great-great-grandson Jaxx; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Cliffard and Edna Strachan; husband Arthur Dungey; brother Larry Strachan; brother-in law Thomas (Tuck) Yuill; sisters-in-law Carol Dungey, Marlene Yuill; and niece Sheri Maryniuk

In respecting Evelyn’s wishes no funeral services to be held. Family to transport her home to Emo at a future date.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I did not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
