Evangeline Melanie (Peggy) Landry, 81, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., formerly of Atikokan, Ont., passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Peggy was born Nov. 23, 1925 in Atikokan to the late Theodore (Tom) and Lena Aubey. On June 4, 1958, she was united in marriage to Clarence Landry, who later predeceased her in 1975.
Peggy lived in Atikokan most of her life until moving to Rainycrest in 2001 due to illness.
In her earlier years, she babysat for numerous people in Atikokan as she really loved children. Peggy also loved singing in the choir at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan and was a devoted Catholic.
While in Rainycrest for the past six years, Peggy attended different church services. She loved Bingos, playing cards, watching line dancing, and going to the Pioneer Club and United Native Friendship Centre in Atikokan.
Peggy also loved going on trips to Manitouwadge to visit her nephews, Ted and Lena Poster and Neil and Bonnie Poster. She enjoyed travelling to Nova Scotia to visit her late husband’s family in her earlier years.
She also enjoyed going to her nephew Ray, Shirley, and Lyle Dolph’s home on Sundays in Fort Frances.
Peggy loved her tea and talking with all the residents and staff that she had made friends with at Rainycrest. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She also was predeceased by three brothers, Fred Aubey, Arnold Aubey, and Howard Aubey; and four sisters, Bernice Jackman, Millie DeBenedet, Lillian Woods, and Margaret Dolph.
Peggy is survived by one sister, Mable Poster, and one brother, Herman Aubey and wife, Wanda, all of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one sister-in-law, Alma Aubey of Regina, Sask.; one brother-in-law, Kevin Jackman and wife, Doreen, of Cambridge, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Interment will take place at the Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007 at 2 p.m.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
The honourary pallbearers will be Peggy’s great-nieces and nephews.
