Eva Russell, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Eva was born June 14, 1919 in Sprucedale, Ont. to George and Rose Marshall.
She was united in marriage to Orin Russell and together they resided in Dance Township, Ont.
Eva loved to garden and the farm life. There always was a milking cow in the pasture until about 25 years ago, due to her arthritis. No milking machine for Eva.
Butter, cream, and cottage cheese were made at home. There also was always fresh-baked bread, canned jams, and vegetables—back before freezers were in every home.
Many stories were told of Eva using a team of oxen to put up the hay for winter. In later years, small bales were used, which she and Orin shared the haying with good friends Olie and Lempi Hake.
Once blueberry season was here, Eva would be found checking the rocks. As a young girl, Eva and a few of her siblings were known to have picked wash tubs full in one afternoon.
Eva also enjoyed playing guitar and writing out the words to songs she would listen to on the radio. Many artists were enjoyed, but Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn were her favourites.
Sewing, knitting, and crocheting were just a few of her many talents. Sadly, Alzheimer’s changed her life in the last few years.
Whatever the mood was, in a flash the blue eyes could twinkle with a smile, as the wonderful caring staff at Rainycrest came to know Eva this past year.
Eva will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary Lou Glade (Mike Clark) of Devlin, Ont., and her granddaughter, Tracy Glade (Adamo Ronpinella) of Winnipeg, Man.
She also is survived by her sisters, Liz Holborn of Dance Township, Ont. and Louise Lambert of B.C.; sister-in-law, Jan Marshall of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eva was predeceased by her husband Orin; brothers, Elwood (Denise), Stan, Gilbert, and Orn (Kathleen); sisters, Florence (Harley) Lindly, Leena (Bill) Whiddon, and Myrtle (Marvin ) Covelle; an infant sister, Mary Marshall; and brothers-in-law, Bob Holborn and Fred Lambert.
As per Eva’s request, cremation has taken place and funeral service will be held Monday, May 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (Heward Road), with Brent Johnson officiating.
Interment will take place in Burriss Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Eva’s family.
