It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of Eva, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Eva was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Fort Frances, Ont. to the late William and Roseanne Morrisseau and spent her entire life in the Fort Frances/Couchiching First Nation area.
Studying at Confederation College, Eva became a certified chef, working in tourist camps and restaurants as well as catering for weddings, conferences, and banquets.
In her later years, Eva enjoyed going to Bingo and playing cards at the seniors’ apartments. She also enjoyed craftwork, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery.
Eva will be remembered by all as a mother figure—loving, nurturing, caring for the ill, and comforting the hearts of many. With a heart of gold, one phone call and Eva’s bannock or loaf of bread was yours for the asking.
Eva is survived by her son, Wes (Deb) Morrisseau of Barwick, Ont.; and daughter, Betty (Leonard) Walsh of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Scott, Gerry, Stacey, Sherry, Dane, Shawn, Daniel, and Thomas; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine (Wilfred) Bruyere and Lucy Bruyere, all of Thunder Bay, Ont.; brother, Conrad (Judy) Morrisseau of International Falls, Mn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Rose Marie; parents, William and Roseanne; and several sisters and brothers.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, April 4, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Couchiching First Nation. Fr. Ed Merchant will officiate, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Friends may visit Thursday, April 3, 2003 from 7 p.m. at the Couchiching Bingo Hall. Vigil prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Albert Calder, Greg Bruyere, Kevin Morrisseau, Ken Morrison, Jeff Bruyere, and Steve Morrisseau.
In memoriam donations may be made to Lifelong Care, United Native Friendship Centre, Box 752, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N1.
Smile when you think of Mom—laughter, joking, and lots of love are the memories she left behind.
