EVA LINKLATER (“Waakenangok”)

Eva Linklater (“Waakenangok”), 88, passed away at her home in Winnipeg, Man. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
She was born and raised in Manitou Rapids, Rainy River First Nations, Ont. on Sept.17, 1918 to Damas and Mary Harrison. She later moved to Couchiching First Nation and then to Fort Frances, Ont., raising her family there.
In the early 1970s, she moved to Winnipeg, taking a housekeeping position at St. Boniface Hospital until her retirement.
Eva was united in marriage to Henry Linklater in 1954.
She was a hard worker all her life, a strong and independent woman, and always put her family first. She enjoyed quilting, making rugs, Bingo, and visiting with her family and friends.
Eva was predeceased by her parents; stepfather; husband; children, Mavis in 1984, Arlene in 2004, and Ken in 2006; and sisters and brothers, Agnes, Madeline, Leo, Eddie, Bill, and Roger.
She leaves behind her children, Evelyn Nelson of Winnipeg, Man., Judy Morrison of Red Gut First Nation, and Darlene Linklater of Thunder Bay, Ont.; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sisters, Mary Ellen and Martha; brothers, Dan and Bill of Wabigoon; nieces, Genevieve McGinnis and Roberta Sinclair; nephews, Willie Wilson and Leonard Wilson Jr.; and numeroud other extended family members.
A wake was held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Rainy River First Nations gymnasium.
A traditional funeral service was held Sunday, May 20, 2007, with Elder Gilbert Smith officiating.
Interment took place at the traditional burial grounds at Rainy River First Nations.
A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at a later date.
