Eugene Julius “Gene” Beck

It is with great sadness the family announces the loss of our very special father, Eugene Julius “Gene” Beck, who passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Gene was born in Saskatchewan to Henry Beck and Annie Nukonoshow on Sept. 29, 1923. He served as a private in the Canadian Army from 1942 to 1946.
He was married to Joan McGillivary on Sept. 14, 1945 in Zelena, Man.
Gene shared in the partnership of Beck’s Taxi with his brothers. His later years were spent co-owning International Block Company with brother, Fred, from which he retired in 1975.
Gene and Joan spent their retirement at Clearwater Lake, with some travel south. Many special friendships and memories came from these years. He resettled in Fort Frances in October, 1998.
Fishing, hunting, lapidary, woodworking, and playing cards were his favourite pastimes.
He will be missed by daughters, Cheryl and husband, Russell Westover, and Sandra and husband, Ross Perry; grandson, Cory Westover; granddaughter, Andrea Perry; and dog, Mitzi.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, on June 17, 1998; and by five older brothers, Mike, Joe, Bill, Fred, and Andy Beck.
His sister Mary (Jennie) Nastor also passed away May 2, 2002.
A private service will be held in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
