Ethel Marian Wilson, 84, of Long Term Care at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008.
She was born May 15, 1924 in Rainy River to the late Charles and Magna Hodges.
Ethel grew up in Rainy River and, in her earlier years, worked at the Arctic Cat plant and the Foodway grocery store there. She was a past member of the Lady Trainmen, the Miriam Rebekah Lodge, and Knox United Church in Rainy River,
On June 10, 1946, Ethel was united in marriage to Leslie Wilson.
Ethel will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Wilson, on Feb. 3, 1993; one son-in-law, Kingsley Downs; two brothers, Norman and Lloyd Hodges; one sister, Helen McQuaker; and brother-in-law, Andy McQuaker.
Ethel is survived by her two sons, Gary Wilson and wife, Sharon, of Rainy River, Ont., and Harry Wilson and wife, Millie, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one daughter, Maureen Downs of Pinewood, Ont.; grandchildren, Scott Downs and wife, Kelly, of Rainy River, Ont., Stacey and husband, Micheal Swentik, of Woodbury, Mn., Jason Wilson and wife, Trish, of Baudette, Mn., and Jennifer and husband, Bruce Lidkea, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and six great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by one brother, Ken Hodges and wife, Eileen, of Melville, Sask.; four sisters, Eileen Hodges, and Gean and husband, Bill Ewald, all of Rainy River, Ont., Charlotte and husband, Gord Calder, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Shirley and husband, Orville Thacker, of Kitchener, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Ethel’s life will be held at a later date.
