ERNEST STANLEY ‘STAN’ GUSTAFSON

Ernest Stanley “Stan” Gustafson, beloved husband of Clarice Gustafson, of Red Deer, Alta., passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at the age of 71.
Besides his loving wife, Clarice, Stan is survived by his children, Gary (Jackie) of Ottawa, Ont., Jim (Kim) of Winnipeg, Man., and Dale (Joanne) and David (Brenda) of Fort Frances, Ont.; one stepson, Marty (Vikki) Gadd of Lethbridge, Alta.; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Allan and Victor of Fort Frances, Ont., and Albert of Burlington, Ont.; three sisters, Gladys Sampson of International Falls, Mn., and Helen Bodnar and Elsie Hampton of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stan was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Gustaf Gustafson.
Stan was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on May 12, 1926. He was very proud of his service in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He was an accountant at various firms and organizations, including Red Deer Toyota, where he retired in 1992 after 15 years of service.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years. Stan celebrated and enjoyed his heritage as a member of the Red Deer Vasa Lodge #733 and also as a member of the Fanatullen Scandinavian Dancers, participating with them locally as well as in Denmark and Sweden.
Stan was an avid sportsman who enjoyed canoeing, skiing, camping, and the outdoors. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 17, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 4346-39th St., Red Deer, Alta., with Pastor William Foged officiating.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 26, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances, with Rev. Patrick Playfair (Legion chaplain) officiating.
Interment in Bergland, Ont.
