ERNEST ‘ERNIE’ ALOYSUS LING

Ling, Ernie

It is with great sadness that the family of Ernest “Ernie” Ling, 82, of Fort Frances Ont., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Ernie was born on June 21, 1935 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago.
A loyal and loving man, he married the love of his life, Nelda, having 5 children: Francis, Mark, Paul, Marcelain, and Russell.
Ernie came to Canada in 1967 and brought his family shortly after, where they eventually settled in Fort Frances. He was a patient and loving father who cared for his family, staying in touch with his roots by calling relatives and returning for visits with his boys to his homeland of Trinidad.
He always was cracking jokes and lightening the mood, and always put others before himself. A man of few words but when he spoke, they were inspiring and insightful.
Ernie was an instrument mechanic with the local paper mill until his retirement and loved a good game of golf. In his younger years, he developed his own photographs and won many awards for his shooting ability as a marksman.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Francis, Mark (Faith), and Russell (Krista) and his “moochies,” grandchildren, Shay, Saxon, Sasha, and loveable Lucy.
He also will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada, Trinidad, the United States, and England; as well as friendships he maintained since childhood (Harold Hosein and family) and the many friends he would come to know and cherish in Fort Frances, whether it be neighbours, co-workers, or his golf and coffee buddies throughout the years.
Ernie was predeceased by parents, Horace and Amelia; sisters, Anne Marie Dasant and Helen Hart; wife, Nelda; and sons, Paul and Marcelain.
As per Ernie’s wishes, a private family interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Oct. 10, 2017.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be to Riverside Foundation for Health Care in Fort Frances c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
