Ernest Clifford Thompson of 1210 Strachan Place, Fort Frances, Ontario passed away unexpectedly in La Verendrye Hospital on February 17, 2009. He was born at home in Fort Frances on May 13, 1925 to Fred and Caroline Thompson. He was raised in Fort Frances as one of eight children. He served with the Air Force in WWII. Ernie began working at the age of 12 and continued working at Shop Easy, Safeway, and the Fridge as a meat cutter until starting his own frozen foods business known as Ernest Thompson Distributors Ltd. He took great pride in working and building relationships for over 70 years until he went for surgery in 2009 at the age of 83. He was a devoted family man to both his personal family and his extensive business and community family. He was friends to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Lois (nee Webb) of 58 years, his sister Colleen of Winnipeg, his daughters Wendy (Brian) Angus of Fort Frances, Linda (Dave) Ross of Kelowna, BC, his sons Dave (Dianne) Thompson of Fort Frances, and Bruce (Diane) Thompson of Fort Frances, and grandchildren Melissa and Sarah Angus, Derek and Dylan Thompson, Matthew and Brandon Thompson, Chaley, Craig, and Cody Ross in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is predeceased by his parents Fred and Caroline (nee Clifford) Thompson, sisters Fern, Arvella, Amber, Bonnie, and Phyllis, and brother “Spreck” Birket.
The Celebration of Ernest Thompson’s Life, in the form of a come and go tea, will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday February 21, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The family requests that, in lieu of fl owers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice.
