Erma Joyce Boland, 72, of 247 Elizabeth St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Easter Monday, April 13, 2009 after a brief illness at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Erma was born in Flin Flon, Man. on April 27, 1936 to the late William and Joan (Jean) Huyton.
She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Zub, and brother, Ronald Huyton.
Erma was raised in Flin Flon and later moved to Fort Frances, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Erma’s life work was her passion for cooking. She worked at most of the restaurants in town and several tourist camps throughout her culinary career.
She shared her love of cooking and entertaining with her family, friends, neighbours, and just about anyone who enjoyed good food.
Erma was a devoted lover of all animals, and even her pets enjoyed her culinary talents on a daily basis.
She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Erma’s generosity and kind, non-judgemental spirit was inspirational to all those who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and good food was always included.
She had a unique sense of humour, a strong will, and a free spirit. To know her was to love her.
Erma will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her husband, Robert Boland; daughters, Marla Thomson (Jack), Dana Helder (Dennis), and Rachael Boland, and step-daughter, Rochelle Gladu; nieces and nephews; her cherished pet, Hailey; and many grand cats and dogs.
A celebration of Erma’s life will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with a luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Interment will take place at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Dennis Helder, Jack Thomson, Bob Bagacki, Joe Kubera, Sonne Sonnasinh, and Don Roth.
