ERIC LEE OTTERTAIL (“Waasegonegaabo” Waasii Clan)

Eric Lee Ottertail (“Waasegonegaabo” Waasii Clan), 32, of Lac LaCroix First Nation, Ont., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
Eric was born March 8, 1981 in Fort Frances, Ont. and had lived all his life in Rainy River District.
He had worked as a canoe tech for the Ministry of Natural Resources and also as a professional guide. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and camping.
He also was a pow-wow singer and enjoyed playing volleyball. He had a strong belief in his culture.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ashley; daughter, Kady Kaya Potson and son, Jordan Garcia Brown; and his parents, Kalvin and Margaret Ottertail.
Also surviving are his brother, Allan Ottertail and his children; sister, Alanna Ottertail and her children; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Marie Ottertail and Helen and Henry Geyshick.
A traditional burial was held Sunday, April 21, 2013 in the morning at the Kalvin Ottertail residence at Lac LaCroix First Nation.
Gilbert Smith officiated, followed by interment in the Lac LaCroix First Nation Cemetery.
A wake was held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Kalvin Ottertail residence.
The pallbearers were Angus Jourdain Jr., Larry Ashawe, Derek Geyshick, Gary Whitefish, Duane Ottertail, and Joel Walton.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Eric’s friends.
