Eric Ernest Brandrick, 91, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2012.
Eric was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Duck Lake, Sask. to Ivan and Sarah Brandrick.
In the spring of 1928, his parents moved the family to Rainy River District, settling in Burriss, Ont., where he remained until 2010, when poor health forced him to move to Rainycrest in Fort Frances.
He joined the army as a young man, serving during World War II. After the war, he worked at various jobs in Rainy River District, including the Steep Rock Iron Mine in Atikokan, and Vernon Armstrong and McLeans Wholesale in Fort Frances, ending his work career as a correctional officer at the Fort Frances Jail in 1986.
Eric always considered himself a cowboy and enjoyed all things related; he loved horseback riding and working on leather. He was well-known in the community for his leatherwork and saddles.
He leaves behind his children Carl of Thunder Bay, Ont., Jess and wife, Pam, of Crozier, Ont., Teresa (John) Dobransky of Fort Frances, Ont., and Anita (Richard) Thomas of Lacombe, Alta.; grandchildren, Corey (Allison) and Riley Dobransky; and brothers, Henry (Elmer) and wife, Slyvia, and Ken Brandrick.
Eric also is survived by Lorna’s children and their families; several sisters- and brothers-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and Sarah; first wife, Bonnie (Lundstrom) and second wife, Lorna (Hayes); brother, Bernard (Pat) Brandrick; sister, Marie Haver; and sister-in-law, Shirley Brandrick.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
Interment will take place in the Burriss Cemetery in the Township of La Vallee, Ont.
