It is with deep sadness that the family of Emily Vandetti announce the unexpected passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, and sister on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000.
Born on Aug. 5, 1928 in Winnipeg, to the late Mary and Andrew Shortreed of Fort Frances, she was raised in Emo and Barwick area and was very proud of her family heritage.
She was married in 1951 to Harry Vandetti, a former editor of the Fort Frances Times. Emily and Harry had four children, Earl (Laureen Ward), Sara, Marion (David Allison) and Carolyn. Emily is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Alexis and Jordan Vandetti, Avery, Olivia, and Isabella Allison and two sisters, Winona Pizzey and Gail Madill. She was predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, brother Kenneth, and recently by brothers-in-law John Madill and John Pizzey.
Her family and friends kept Emily’s kitchen busy and there was always room for unexpected guests at the dinner table. Summer was especially wonderful at her home with flowers blooming everywhere and fresh vegetables from the garden.
Emily enjoyed the friendship of the ladies at Aquafitness. She had been a volunteer at Rainycrest Auxiliary and the day hospital until she became a full-time grandma, one of her most cherished responsibilities.
She will be fondly remembered by the friends of her church.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 25, 2000 at 9:00 a.m., funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Emo Legion Hall with Bruce Waddell, Audrey Robbins and Amber Wilde officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
