EMILY JANE EMBURY

Emily Jane Embury (nee Hartnell), 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at the Rainy River Health Centre Long-Term Care in Rainy River, Ont., where she had been a resident for five years to the day.
She was born Aug. 14, 1919 in Blue Township, Ont. to Walter & Mary Hartnell (nee Martin).
Emily was married to William Martin Embury on Feb. 25, 1936 in Rainy River. They farmed in Blue Township until 1972 and then moved to Rainy River.
Emily started cooking at tourist camps on Lake of the Woods in 1952 while Dad stayed home looking after the younger children and the farm. She worked at Calvert’s Camp and Obabikon Bay Camp.
She also worked at Black Bear Camp and Gill’s Snack House in Sioux Narrows, Ont., cooking for the tourists.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, on May 8 1976; her parents, Walter and Mary Hartnell; two daughters, Edith Fraser on Oct. 3, 2002 and Evelyn Godin on Feb. 17, 2009; son-in-law, Charlie Johnson on Nov. 24, 2009; one brother, Walter Hartnell Jr.; one sister, Doris (Leslie) Tausendfrende; and brothers-in-law, Henry Peters and Vernon Wrolstad.
Emily is survived by two sons, Harold (Janet) Embury and Cliff (Ruth) Embury; two daughters, Ilene Johnson and Mim (Dan) Johnson; sons-in-law, Don Fraser and Almer Godin; 16 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her brother, Fred Hartnell; sister, Lorna Peters Wrolstad; sisters-in-law, Vivian Hartnell and Jeanne Hartnell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mom liked nothing better than going for rides in the country to visit her daughters, going fishing with her son-in-law, Almer, and visiting her sons in Huntsville, Ont. and Saskatoon, Sask.
She also enjoyed going to church on Sundays when she was able and going to the seniors’ drop-in centre.
Cremation has taken place. At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral.
Interment will take place at a later date in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
