Emil James halverson, 72, of Nestor Falls, Ont., passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man.
Emil was born July 15, 1930 in Bergland, Ont. He worked at Halverson Resort for a good part of his earlier years. He later moved to Off Lake and with his wife, Leone, they owned and operated the Hyde Park Store.
He also worked as a general contractor at this time.
After selling the Hyde Park Store, they moved to Crow Lake, where Emil continued his construction business until his retirement. Enjoying the outdoors, Emil guided for several resorts in the Nestor Falls area.
He is survived by his sister, Betty (Mrs. Dick Peterson) of Nestor Falls, Ont.; two brothers, Harold “Bob” Halverson and wife, Arlene, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Morris Halverson of Nestor Falls, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, “Millie.”
He was predeceased by his wife, Leone Lougheed in 1990; parents, Gustav “Ben” and Anna F. Halverson; brothers, Richard, Harvey, Bill, Leo, and Gordon; sister, Pearl Lougheed; and brother-in-law, Alfred Lougheed and nephew, Ricky Halverson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Pat White officiating.
Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery at a later date.
Friends visited with the family on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bob Halverson, Morris Halverson, Roger Lougheed, Murray Meyers, Curt Peterson, and Gerald Lougheed.
Honourary pallbearers were Royden Kropp, Terry Olson, Bob Tinkess, Denver Holden, Jim Gloege, Raymond Stewart, and Moe Tribe.
