EMIL CARL DOMANSKI

Emil Carl Domanski, 83, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly at La Verendrye Hospital on Oct. 16, 2001.
Carl was born in Fort Frances on Oct. 23, 1917.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sophie (Toffan) and Joseph Domanski.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Viola (Anderson); daughter, Julie (Blair) Mowery of Minneapolis, Mn.; son, Jamie (Beverley) Domanski of Ottawa, Ont.; and daughter, Karen (Philippe) Oudin of Paris, France.
Carl was the proud grandfather of John and Beth Mowery, Craig and Kevin Domanski, and Madeleine and Nicolas Oudin.
He also is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Claudia Domanski; and nephew, Gary (Georgianne) Domanski.
Carl was raised in Fort Frances and excelled in football, hockey, and basketball. He worked in the creamery business with his father and brother throughout the 1930s.
In September, 1940, Carl married Viola Anderson and shortly thereafter, joined the Canadian Air Force and served overseas until 1945 as a corporal.
Again with his brother and father, Carl bought the Lakeland Hotel in Thunder Bay and eventually returned to Fort Frances, where they bought the Rainy Lake Hotel.
After selling the hotel, Carl joined Canada Manpower and served as district manager until he retired at age 65 in 1982.
Carl attended St. Mary’s Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. He loved fishing, attending Muskie sporting events, working on his yard and lawn, and meeting with friends at the Sister Kennedy Centre.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiated, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends visited with the family on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Parish prayers were offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were John and Blair Mowery, Craig and Kevin Domanski, Gary Domanski, and Wally Golab.
Honourary pallbearers were Gordon McTaggart, Ernie Brunetta, Ernie Toffan, Bernie Cousineau, Bill Kirk, Ray Holmes, and Bill Fontana.
