The family of Elva Wedlake is sad to announce the passing of their mother, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at the age of 89.
She quietly slipped away at the home of her daughter, Carrol, in Hanmer, Ont. All four of her daughters were able to share in her end-of-life care and passing.
Elva was born in Kenville, Man. on March 17, 1921. She was married to Herbert George Wedlake on June 23, 1942, who predeceased her on June 26, 1992 three days after their 50th wedding anniversary.
She had many hobbies and kept active while raising her four daughters in North Battleford, Sask., Cartwright, Man., and Atikokan, Ont.
She was a long-time member of the Atikokan Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and served terms as president, Sergeant-at-Arms, and kitchen volunteer.
Many people benefited from her skills as a cake-maker and decorator. She also was a Girl Guide leader, Scout leader, and active in the United Church in her younger years.
She loved animals, sewing, and doing crafts.
Elva is survived by her daughters, Carrol (Walter Wroblowsky), Margaret Connolly Smith, Shirley (Gerald Alexa), and Heather (Robert Johnson); as well as her 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Wally, Holly, Shawn, Shannon, Johanne, Kristian, Shara, Aaron, and Michael.
She also is survived by 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family as “GG’ and the “Energizer Bunny.”
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert (1992) and granddaughter, Bobbi-Jo Johnson (1973). She also was predeceased by her parents, Annie (Currie) and James McIntyre; brothers, Earl, Roy, Robert, and Albert; and sisters, Emily, Clysta, Janet, and Merle.
In keeping with Elva’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Cremation at Park Lawn Crematorium. A graveside service will take place in Atikokan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to charities of your choice would be appreciated.
Heaven will be brightened by their newest angel.
