Elsie was born and raised in Stratton, Ont., but left to go to college in Minneapolis. She was wooed back to Ontario by her Stratton sweetheart, Carl, and they were married in September, 1953 and moved to Atikokan, Ont.
They intended to stay in Atikokan for only a few years but they fell in love with the community and never left.
She worked at The Bay when they first moved to Atikokan and then after family was older, she worked for Dr. Danlychuk and Eatons. Elsie made lifelong friends wherever she worked.
