Elsie Margaret Haines, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at the age of 92.
Elsie was born June 3, 1921 in North Leyton, Great Britain.
While serving in the British Air Force during World War II, Elsie met and wed Kenneth Haines during his tour with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas.
After the war, Elsie, as a war bride, and her first-born boarded a ship headed for their new home in Canada. After a short stay in Emo, Ont., the family moved to Fort Frances.
Elsie raised seven children, all of whom are left to mourn.
They are four daughters, Sylvia (the late Frank) Clifford of Saint John, N.B., Darlene (Louis) Byma and Barbara (Robert) Everett of Fort Frances, Ont., and Diane (Walter) Dolph of Moose Jaw, Sask.; and three sons, David (Jo-Anne) and Gerald (Marion) of Kenora, Ont. and Kenneth (Alana) of Kamloops, B.C.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, on July 9, 1993; son-in-law, Frank Clifford; daughter-in-law, Thelma Haines; and granddaughter, Casey Haines.
Elsie was a “stay-at-home Mom.” She liked to sew and was a great cook, with butter tarts being her specialty.
Elsie loved to play Bingo and the slot machines at the casino. She also enjoyed fishing.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
