ELSIE BALL

Elsie Ball, 81, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Elsie was born Jan. 13, 1927 in Emo, Ont. to the late Thomas and Susan Geary.
She had worked as a secretary for Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School. She also was a member of Knox United Church and the United Church Women, and a member of the Fort Frances Horticultural Society, the McIrvine Women’s Institute, and the Kitchen Creek Golf Club.
She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and doing crafts, bowling, cross-country skiing, and walking. She also loved to travel and had been to Cuba, Hawaii, Scotland, Las Vegas, and Alaska just to mention a few.
She is survived by her four children, Richard (Nancy), Donna (Cal) Rawluk, and Linda (Robert) Bisson, all of Winnipeg, Man., and Jannie Ball of Fort Frances, Ont.; and her grandchildren, Kathryn Ball and her fiancé, Murray Farnell, Patricia Ball, Kevin Bobczynski, Sarah Bisson, and Jonathan Bisson.
Also surviving are her brothers, Jack Geary and Ed (Linda) Geary, all of Kenora, Ont., and Hugh Geary of Fort Frances, Ont.; sisters, Jean Geary of Winnipeg, Man., May Swartman of Fort Frances, Ont., and Nellie (Lawrence) Derouard of Kenora, Ont.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Thelma Kergoat and Dorothy Halverson, both of Thunder Bay, Ont., Bessie Ball of Kingston, Ont., Maurice Thomas of Winnipeg, Man., Frank and Becky Ball of Fort Frances, Ont., and Harold Wilson of Kenora, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Ball, on Sept. 11, 1982; sisters, Pansy Geary and Susan Wilson; brother, Earl; sisters-in-law, Bernice Thomas, Helen Geary, Hilda Geary, Doreen Geary, and Louise Ball; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Ball, Joseph (Bud) Ball, Henry Kergoat, and Rune Halverson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Rev. Barbara Miller officiated, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited with the family on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers were Ken Ball, Randy Ball, Robert Bisson, Aron Geary, Ron Halverson, and Cal Rawluk.
The honourary pallbearers were members of the McIrvine Women’s Institute: Irene Huntley, Roberta Chabot, Winnie Rousseau, Delores Cross, Annie Holborn, Helen Lalond, and Ruth Brett.
