ELSA CHRISTINA HANSON

Elsa Christina Hanson, 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ont.
Elsa was born Jan. 16, 1914 to Swan and Agnes Norlund in Pratt Township, Ont. She was eldest of six children.
Elsa was a valued member of the Rebekah Lodge, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bergland Women’s Institute, Rainy River Horticulture Society, Eastern Star, and the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary.
She spent many hours volunteering throughout the community.
Elsa was united in marriage to Harold Hanson on June 2, 1934 in Rainy River. They settled in Pratt Township until 1956, at which time they relocated to the Kenora area, where Harold worked at logging.
Elsa and Harold moved back to the Bergland area and settled on the Little Grassy River. After Harold’s passing in 1976, Elsa moved to Rainy River and remained there until her passing.
She worked as a home care worker and at Arctic Cat in Rainy River. One of Elsa greatest achievements was going back to school and earning her Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 74 and her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in sociology at the age of 84.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Judith (Lorne) Tilson and grandson, Richard Tilson, all of Moose Jaw, Sask.; granddaughter, Gail Tilson of Regina, Sask.; and great-grandchildren, Stuart, Scott, Alysha, Adam, and Cheney.
Elsa also is survived by her sister, Emma Hanson of Steinbach, Man.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Norlund of Rainy River, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Swan and Agnes Norlund; husband, Harold; brothers, Carl, Verner, and Elmer (Theresa) Norlund; sister, Mary (Ralph) Fugate; and brother-in-law, Albert Hanson.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Bergland Trinity Lutheran Church, with Lay Pastor Carolyn Kreger officiating.
Interment will take place in Bergland Cemetery.
