Elmer William Haglin (Williamson), 79, passed away suddenly Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 in Nestor Falls, Ont.
Elmer was born May 9, 1924 in North Branch, Ont. to Lillian and Emil Williamson. He was raised in Rainy River, Ont. by Mr. and Mrs. John Haglin, living in Rainy River District all of his life.
Elmer enlisted with the Canadian Army in May, 1942 and served until February, 1946. On Dec. 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Birdena LaBelle.
After the war, Elmer spent some time guiding and then worked as a logger for various companies in the Emo area. Elmer enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He also had a great love for his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Birdena, on May 8, 2000; son, Dwayne, on Oct. 9, 1992; granddaughter, Chantelle; sisters, Tilly and Mabel; brothers, Bill, Ken, Fred, Mervin, and Dave; and brother-in-law, Ted LaBelle in March, 1992.
Elmer leaves behind his children, Donna and husband, Carmon Sheppard, of Emo, Ont., Marvin Haglin of Fort Frances, Ont., Sandy and husband, Randy Haney, Cal Haglin and wife, Donna, Sadie and husband, Keith Smith, and Walter Haglin, all of Emo, Ont., and Wade Haglin and wife, Irene, of Murillo, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brother, Jack Williamson of Ear Falls, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Holden of Fort Frances, Ont., and Darlene LaBelle of Atikokan, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Cremation took place in Thunder Bay, Ont., with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Honourary pallbearers were his grandchildren.
