ELLEN NETTIE BRUCE

Ellen Nettie Bruce passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014 at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan.
On Jan. 18, 1926 she born and raised in Fort Frances to Dora (nee Maxsymiuk) and Mike Solaryk.
In her early working years, Ellen was a secretary employed at the Fort Frances Hospital.
She was also employed at Canada Car in Thunder Bay where she worked assembling Hawker Hurricane Airplanes for the Second World War. This is where she met her future husband, the late Larry Bruce.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Benjamin Bruce in International Falls in 1953.
Ellen was involved with Brownies for a time and she was an avid bowler until her sixties both in Fort France and Atikokan. She enjoyed Bingo and early loved her children and grandchildren.
Ellen was a quite, unassuming person with a kind heart. She loved puzzles of any sort, especially crosswords. She enjoyed boxed puzzles and spent many an enjoyable evening working on these.
She was loyal to those she loved and cared about and enjoyed buying small gifts for any occasion.
She is survived by her younger brother, Sam, of Edmonton; two children, including son, Laurence, and wife, Elaine of North Bay, ON and grandchildren Samantha (Ken) and Thomas, and daughter Bonnie and grandchildren Raena (Keith), April, T.J. (Lindsey) of Grand Prairie and Calgary; three great-grandchildren, Jules, Christina and Harper; and son-in-law, Randy Mattson.
Ellen will be great missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Atikokan, ON.
Cremation has taken place with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, ON.
