Ella (“Oma”) Wicek, 81, of Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Ella was born Aug. 9, 1927 in Nurnberg, Germany to the late Max and Therese Turban. She came to Canada in 1953 and eventually settled in Fort Frances.
She was very artistic with her sewing and needlework, and she enjoyed doing puzzles. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
Most of all, though, her family was very important to her.
“Oma” was united in marriage on March 16, 1946 to Alex, who survives along with their two children, George (Patricia) of Winnipeg, Man. and Anita (Larry) Mattson of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren, Tammy (Colin) Colliou, Sherry (Kevin) Randall, Stephan (Stacey) Wicek, and Justin and Kristopher Mattson; three great-grandchildren, Jerald, Nicholas, and Tyler Randall; and two sisters, Reisi Bezold and family and Gerta Sommers and family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Max and Therese; and two brothers, Max and Willie Turban.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
