Mom was born on August 14, 1931 in Barwick, Ont. She was one of 10 children born to Henry and Violet (Hamilton) Ahrens. Together with her surviving seven siblings she learned about living, having fun and working hard on the farm and developed a strong sense of values and great work ethics.
In 1948, she moved to Pinewood to work, where she eventually met Dad. On June 28, 1950, she married the love of her life, Lawrence and together they purchased and took over the farm from his parents. She actively farmed with Dad for 40 years.
In 1990, Mom and Dad retired in Fort Frances. They then became actively involved in the Sister Kennedy Centre where they pursued their passion for card playing. She also did volunteer work at Rainycrest during this time. Mom loved to dance and enjoyed a good joke. She was an avid gardener. In later years she enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles and continued to bake her own bread and cinnamon rolls to age 94. Mom was an outgoing person who readily spoke to everyone and diligently kept up on family events. She lived independently and remained in her apartment until the time of her passing.
At the time of her passing, Mom was survived by her children Caroline (Gary) Advent, Ardelle Hartnell, Wade (Kim), and Leo; her grandchildren Steven (Cordelia) Advent, Erin (Mike) Gate, Kyle (Heather) Advent, Fred (Jude) Hartnell, Luc (Drew), Jordan (Dakota), Kurt (Kyra), Morgan (Chloe) Desserre, Jodi Desserre and Danica (Chris) Campbell; her great-grandchildren Faith (Andre), Chandler (Abbey), Alexia, Kayleigh, Caden, Landon, Ericka (Aiden), Shane, Ryan, Ava, Genevieve, Emersyn, Chase, Ava, Carter, Oaklyn, Averie and Zaedyn; great-great-grandchild Malakai. Mom is also survived by many generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Lawrence; their son Bruce; grandson Craig Advent; son-in-law Walter Hartnell; her parents Violet and Henry Ahrens; in-laws Olivine and Adelord Desserre; siblings Mervin Ahrens, Merveline (Gerald) Brown, Otto (Mildred) Ahrens, Dorothy (Ray) Brown, Mansel (Gladys) Ahrens, Howard (Joan) Ahrens, Shirley (Bob) Gadd and two infant siblings; in-laws Germaine (Norman) Roth, Ed (Florence), Alphonse (Sophie), Wilfred (Arvilla), Jean (Sullo) Langen, Celina (Nick) Chuhay, Eugene (Sally), (Marion) and Lilia (Stan) Melanson, Jack Williamson.
Mom was a wonderful mother and grandmother. We will miss you greatly but you will remain in our hearts forever.
