ELIZABETH LOUISE BARNARD (LOUISE/WEEZIE)

Elizabeth Louise Barnard, age 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep September 28, 2022, due to complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Louise was born on November 15, 1948, in Vancouver, B.C. She grew up in Vancouver until she moved to Camp Borden, Ontario, to serve in the military (It’s true!). She met and married Denis Barnard Sr. and moved to Fort Frances, Ontario, where she lived for over 30 years. She raised her only son, Denis, in whom she took tremendous pride. She had many fond memories of the people she knew in Fort Frances, especially Wilma Chapman and Betty McLeod. In 2006, she moved back to the Lower Mainland in British Columbia to be closer to Denis and family.

Louise worked as a Secretary in Fort Frances for many years at the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs and later at Family and Children’s Services. She valued the people that she worked with and enjoyed her years working with the citizens of Fort Frances.

Louise enjoyed spending time with family. She spent many hours at the rink watching her grandsons play hockey. She sewed for most of her life and truly enjoyed that her granddaughter had recently taken an interest in sewing as well. She enjoyed dogs and people and loved sharing stories with everyone she met.

Louise is survived by her son Denis; daughter-in-law Christy; and their children Griffin, Hadley and Harrison.

A small funeral was held on October 5, 2022, at Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria, B.C.

Pallbearers were Denis Barnard, Christy Barnard, Griffin Barnard, TJ Barnard, Darren Kennard, and Carrie-Lynn Brown.

If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Rest well, Louise. You will be missed.
