Strom, Elizabeth

It is with great sadness that we announce that Elizabeth Ann Strom passed away at Madonna Long Term Care in Orleans, ON, on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 85. She had contracted COVID-19.
Elizabeth (Betty) as she was known was born in Swan River, MB on September 30, 1934. After school she moved to Winnipeg and then to Fort Frances to be the telegraph operator. There she met and married Arne Lloyd (Bud) Strom on August 12, 1954.
She is survived by her three children Caralynn Strom (Steve Tighe) Ottawa, ON; Eric Strom Fort Frances; and Lindsay Strom (Randal Walker) Calgary, AB. Betty has 6 grandchildren: Cassandra Tighe New York, NY; Bridget Tighe, Ottawa, ON; Erica Strom Nelson, BC and Bailley Strom, Winnipeg, MB; Darren (Sarah) Flewelling, Adam (Jen) Flewelling both of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter Clara Elizabeth Flewelling.
Betty is predeceased by her parents John (Mary) Lindsay; her brother Noel Lindsay; and her husband Arne Lloyd Strom in 2007.
Betty had a career before children and once they were raised she turned her love of helping people to becoming a LPN. She worked at the hospital in Fort Frances for many years making friends and helping her community. She volunteered for the diabetic association and spent her spare time with friends and family, visiting her grandchildren, travelling and fishing with her husband Bud.
For years she was the organist at her church and was our favourite shore lunch chef. Her home was always open for a visit and she did all she could for those she loved.
As each of us honour her life the best way we can in these trying times we know that in the future we will gather together as a family to lay her to rest. In memory of Elizabeth donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.
