Peacefully, on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2016 at the age of 93, our dear mother, Bess McCarthy, left us to join our father, Mervyn, and sisters, Linda and Joan, in Heaven.
Mom was a kind and loving person. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. And could that smile light up a room!
We will miss her dearly.
Mom was born on May 8, 1923 in Hastings, Sussex, England to Herbert and Florence (Wheeler) Freeman; a sister to big brother, Ron.
She met the love of her life, Mervyn McCarthy, during WWII and they were united in marriage on Dec. 12, 1942. Dad returned to Canada in early 1946 and Mom followed a year later with their two small children.
She would leave England and big-city life to settle in the small farming community of Chalk River, Ont. Together, they raised five children and enjoyed 67 wonderful years until Dad’s passing on May 6, 2011.
Over the years, Mom and Dad would live in Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba, finally retiring in Renfrew, Ont. in 1994. In July of 2013, Bess made her final move to Fort Frances, Ont. to be close to her daughter, Cindy.
Bess is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Ken) Noble; sons, Basil (Fran) McCarthy and Mark (Terri) McCarthy; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Mervyn; daughters, Linda LeTang and Joan Freeman; grandson, Sean McCarthy; great-granddaughter, Madisyn McCarthy; parents, Herbert and Florence Freeman; and brother, Ronald Freeman, and his wife, Edna.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date in Renfrew, where she will be laid to rest next to Dad.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Rainycrest Activation Fund or a charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., POW 1E0.
