ELIZA MEDICINE (Naawakwe-Giizhigook Atik Doodem)

Eliza Medicine, 77, of Fort Frances, ON passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at Rainycrest Long Term Care with family at her side.
Eliza was born on Oct. 28, 1932 in the Rainy River First Nations to Sandy and Maggie Horton.
At the age of 17, she met Robert Medicine and following their marriage they moved to International Falls, where Robert worked.
After Robert retired they moved “across the river” to Fort Frances. Eliza enjoyed bingo and being outdoors, blueberry picking, as well as riding her bicycle around town with Robert.
Eliza loved being surrounded by children and after her children were grown she began working at the TLC facility on Couchiching First Nation.
She also enjoyed traveling, visiting family and making new friends along the way.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sandy and Maggie Horton; husband, Robert; son, Robert (Sonny); two sons in infancy, Roger and Wayne; sisters, Bella and Sarah Kingbird; and brother, Robert Horton.
Eliza leaves behind her daughter, Brenda Hyatt and her children Kori (Bruce) Oakley, Dakota Hyatt, and Taylor Hyatt; grandson, Pedro Medicine; sisters-in-law, Annie Hawk, Annabelle Hawk, and Lucy Copenace; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A wake will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 from 3 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nation Gymnasium.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nation Gymnasium with Elder Charles Nelson officiating.
Interment will take place at the Rainy River First Nations Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Dakota Hyatt, Tyler Kaushagen, Kevin Godin, Lionel Horton, Robin McGinnis, and Brett LeGarde.
