Elaine Mary Black, 87, passed away peacefully Monday, July 23, 2007 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born June 26, 1920 in Sarnia, Ont. to John and Ethel Ward. She was raised in the Sarnia area and attended teacher’s college as a young woman.
She first came to Rainy River District, taking a teaching position in Barwick and North Branch. She then returned to the Sarnia area, teaching there as well as in Marathon, Ont., before moving back to Fort Frances.
Elaine retired from teaching in 1980.
She was united in marriage to George Black and together they raised three daughters. She loved spending time with her family.
She was a member of Knox United Church and the Women’s Institute. Elaine also was an accomplished organist and was well-known throughout the area for her talent.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents, John and Ethel; husband, George; and daughter, Gail.
She leaves behind her daughters, Karen E. Jackson of Fort Frances, Ont. and Terry Drever of Corunna, Ont.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Don Shanks of Niagara Falls, Ont.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Crematory Services in International Falls, Mn.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. Rev. Frances Flook will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.
